Welcome to Blue Lotus Renovations, proudly female-owned and family-operated since its inception in 2021.
The seeds of Blue Lotus were planted in my heart long ago. Spending my early years in upstate New York in a house built in 1915, surrounded by antiques lovingly collected by my mother, I always felt like an old soul with an affinity for old things (cars, homes, and furniture just to name a few). As a teenager I was gifted and fixed up a vintage Schwinn Beach Cruiser and – as I proudly rode it to and from school with its new paint gleaming in the sun – my love of restoring old treasures was born. Later, as a young mother with little disposable income, I found an old crib that I brought back to life and used for my daughter; from there grew my appreciation for the value that came with being resourceful. I began incorporating thrifted furniture into my homes, upcycled them and found it gratifying to see previously unwanted items given a new life. All these experiences became the roots inside me which helped the idea for Blue Lotus to grow.
Coming from a construction family, I was drawn to the industry and – in addition to being a licensed real estate broker for over 25 years – I have served as a design consultant for several investment property renovations and flips, managed updates and renovations for a myriad of real estate clients, and even personally designed and built two-vintage inspired homes. Through these projects I developed a skill set that is a natural fit with my love of restoring old things; hence, Blue Lotus Renovations was born.
People often ask me about the significance of the Blue Lotus. The Blue Lotus flower traditionally symbolizes resurrection, rebirth, and immortality – all qualities that I impart to my projects. I enjoy working on projects of any size, scope, and style however my passion and specialty is bringing new life into vintage homes from the 1900s up through the mid-century modern era. That is where the Blue Lotus blooms to the fullest. On a personal level, I identify with the adversity the lotus flower must overcome to exist and thrive in its natural environment: plunging upward through the mud and muck to emerge whole time and again, spreading its beautiful petals in the sun. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “No mud, no lotus.” Here at Blue Lotus, we are not afraid to look past the mud to see the beauty that lies beneath.
I find joy in bringing beauty into the world around me and am inspired by the rich history and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, where I have lived, worked, and played for over 30 years. Outside of work hours I can be found spending time with my family (three daughters and four busy grandkids!), doing yoga, gardening, hiking, or restoring old things, most recently a vintage camper trailer because – why not?
